VUB allows limited teaching activities on campus from Monday 30 November

This week, the Flemish government confirmed that higher education will revert to code red from 30 November. For VUB, this means that activities will again be possible to a limited extent on the campuses. Of course, the precautionary measures still apply.

In this new phase, lectures will remain digital. Essential practicals, lectures and exercises can take place on campus again in accordance with the safety measures. Activities can be organised on campus for first-year students.

The new measures apply until the end of the semester. This means that the examinations from 4 to 30 January 2021 inclusive will also take place in these circumstances, digitally where possible and on campus where necessary.

Rector Caroline Pauwels: “We are happy with these relaxations, no matter how small. For our students, it offers a bit of perspective. Of course, we’d like to urge our students to continue following the rules. That is important. But it isn’t easy being a student in these circumstances. We realise this and admire their perseverance and resilience. Yes, we are proud of our students. Our message to them is to keep going, and one day there will come a time when you can study normally again and enjoy student life. Take care of each other and don’t hesitate to ask for help in time.”

About Press - Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Vrije Universiteit Brussel is an internationally oriented university in Brussels, the heart of Europe. By providing excellent research and education on a human scale, VUB wants to make an active and committed contribution to a better society.

The World Needs You

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel assumes its scientific and social responsibility with love and decisiveness. That’s why VUB launched the platform De Wereld Heeft Je Nodig – The World Needs You, which brings together ideas, actions and projects based on six Ps. The first P stands for People, because that’s what it’s all about: giving people equal opportunities, prosperity, welfare, respect. Peace is about fighting injustice, big and small, in the world. Prosperity combats poverty and inequality. Planet stands for actions on biodiversity, climate, air quality, animal rights... With Partnership, VUB is looking for joint actions to make the world a better place. The sixth and last P is for Poincaré, the French philosopher Henri Poincaré, from whom VUB derives its motto that thinking should submit to nothing except the facts themselves. VUB is an ‘urban engaged university’, strongly anchored in Brussels and Europe and working according to the principles of free research.
