Sammy Mahdi gives guest lecture at VUB

Refugees as a Geopolitical Weapon

Monday, March 21, 2022 — On 22 March, Sammy Mahdi, VUB alumnus and state secretary for asylum and migration, will give a guest lecture on the topic Refugees as a Geopolitical Weapon. The situation in Ukraine and the flow of refugees it creates make this a painfully relevant subject. Mahdi will give the guest lecture at the invitation of VUB professor Alexander Mattelaer.

The lecture will take place at the Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus in Ixelles from 18.00 to 20.00 in building I, auditorium i.2.03, and is an extracurricular session that ties in with the International Security and Strategic Studies course of the Global Security and Strategy master’s programme at the Brussels School of Governance (VUB). The lecture is open to all students.
