Port Oostende and Vrije Universiteit Brussel launch new masterclass: VUB Masterclass Series in Ostend on Future-proof Leadership & Strategy

A dynamic world demands leaders who understand the latest trends, who are ready to think ahead and who can implement sustainable strategies. To meet these needs, the Port Oostende and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) are introducing the VUB Masterclass Series in Ostend on Future-proof Leadership & Strategy. This innovative training was officially presented on 12 June and is aimed at professionals who want to sharpen their leadership skills and make their organisations future-proof, sustainably.

The masterclass offers participants the latest insights in strategic management and leadership, tailored to the challenges of today and the expectations of the future. Through a series of interactive sessions, case studies, practical skills labs and inspiring guest lectures, participants will gain actionable experiences and learn to make strategic decisions that promote organisational resilience and growth. The masterclasses will take place monthly at the iconic Stapelhuis Entrepot from September 2024.

As well as in-depth knowledge and practical tools, the masterclass will act as a valuable mirror, with participants having the chance to critically evaluate and refine their own management style. The programme offers a refreshing opportunity for re-energisation by taking participants out of their comfort zone and enabling them to return to their organisation with a fresh perspective on their strategy and approach.

The first edition of the VUB Masterclass Series in Ostend on Future-proof Leadership & Strategy is exclusively by invitation and places are limited. The target audience is top-level business leaders from a range of sectors and prominent stakeholders in the social sector, who are interested in refreshing and strengthening their leadership skills and strategic thinking.

Charlotte Verkeyn, president Port Oostende: “Since 2019, the port authority has been working to bring more training to Ostend. After previous successes with the von Karman Institute, seminars with KU Leuven and the return of the Maritime Academy to Ostend, this masterclass series with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel is a new highlight in the offer of training and knowledge institutions at the port of Ostend.”
Dirk Declerck, CEO & general manager Port Oostende: “The collaboration with the VUB to organise this masterclass reflects our dedication to promoting sustainable leadership and a focus on strategic choices. We are delighted to offer a platform where leaders can grow and adapt to the rapidly changing world. It is a unique opportunity for professionals to hone their skills and find innovative solutions to tomorrow's challenges. It also aligns with the philosophy and need for lifelong learning.”
Jan Danckaert, rector Vrije Universiteit Brussel: “Our world and our society are in transition – that calls for entrepreneurs and leaders who fully understand the scale of those profound changes and shifts and can respond to them sustainably. As rector of the VUB, I’m delighted that we can apply our knowledge, values and professors to create even stronger Flemish entrepreneurship and leadership that embraces lifelong learning. Alongside Port Oostende, I’m sure we will be able to write an inspiring story at the Stapelhuis Entrepot, with a focus on AI, ESG, taxation, investment in Flanders and other pressing topics.”

About Press - Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Vrije Universiteit Brussel is an internationally oriented university in Brussels, the heart of Europe. By providing excellent research and education on a human scale, VUB wants to make an active and committed contribution to a better society.

The World Needs You

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel assumes its scientific and social responsibility with love and decisiveness. That’s why VUB launched the platform De Wereld Heeft Je Nodig – The World Needs You, which brings together ideas, actions and projects based on six Ps. The first P stands for People, because that’s what it’s all about: giving people equal opportunities, prosperity, welfare, respect. Peace is about fighting injustice, big and small, in the world. Prosperity combats poverty and inequality. Planet stands for actions on biodiversity, climate, air quality, animal rights... With Partnership, VUB is looking for joint actions to make the world a better place. The sixth and last P is for Poincaré, the French philosopher Henri Poincaré, from whom VUB derives its motto that thinking should submit to nothing except the facts themselves. VUB is an ‘urban engaged university’, strongly anchored in Brussels and Europe and working according to the principles of free research.
