VUB Belgium’s highest climber in Times Higher Education rankings for law
Five Belgian universities among top 200 worldwide
According to Prof Miguel De Jonckheere, dean of the Faculty of Law and Criminology, the rise in the rankings is due to
“the sustained efforts to continue providing practice-oriented education to small groups of students even in the face of strong student growth. Additionally, to the efforts we have made to develop quality blended education in consultation with the students, which tries to find a good balance between self-development and social contact education. Of course, the strong position of our research groups in international and interdisciplinary research also plays a very important role in this great result.”
There are now five Belgian universities in the top 200, up from four last year. UAntwerp is ranked 126-150 and UCLouvain 101-125. There are three Flemish universities in the top 50: VUB at 41, followed by UGent at 40 and KULeuven at 10. The US and UK have lost their dominant position at the top; apart from Belgium, universities from Australia and Singapore are now also in the top 10.
