Commemoration of Caroline Pauwels

Commemoration of Caroline Pauwels

Preview of VRT documentary The Four Seasons of Caroline Pauwels

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Canvas invite you, as a member of the press, to a commemoration of VUB Honorary Rector Caroline Pauwels and a preview of the documentary The Four Seasons of Caroline Pauwels, on Monday 12 September at 17.00. Together we will remember Caroline Pauwels as the inspiring woman she was. If you would like to attend this event, please send a confirmation email to VUB Press Relations: [email protected].

The host of the evening is VRT journalist Annelies Beck. Guest speakers Karen Donders, Director of Public Engagement, Talent and Organization at VRT, Isabel Junius, VRT programme-maker, Jan Danckaert, VUB Rector, and Karsten De Clerck, VUB President, will fondly recall Caroline's warm personality.

In the avant-premiere of The Four Seasons of Caroline Pauwels by Isabel Junius and Mieke Ghys, we follow Caroline during the summer, autumn, winter and spring of the year 2021-2022 and share her vision of the world. This portrait will be broadcast on television on 26 September. More information can be found on the Canvas website.

As a journalist, you can attend the commemoration and preview and gather reactions from guests after the broadcast. We explicitly ask you to do this discreetly and to respect the wishes and privacy of those attending.

We also ask photographers and videographers to respect guests’ wishes and privacy. During the first 10 minutes of the preview, photographs can be taken and flash and video recordings made. Afterwards, we ask that people take their seats in the auditorium and not take pictures until after the preview.

The commemoration will take place in VUB’s main auditorium at the Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus in Etterbeek. We advise you to come by public transport. If you will be coming by car, please request your parking spot by registering your numberplate. You will then be able to drive onto the VUB campus without any problems thanks to automatic numberplate recognition.

Disclaimer: VUB and Canvas have invited a select group of journalists for this commemoration and preview. This is a personal, named invitation. Please do not forward it.

About Press - Vrije Universiteit Brussel

Vrije Universiteit Brussel is an internationally oriented university in Brussels, the heart of Europe. By providing excellent research and education on a human scale, VUB wants to make an active and committed contribution to a better society.

The World Needs You

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel assumes its scientific and social responsibility with love and decisiveness. That’s why VUB launched the platform De Wereld Heeft Je Nodig – The World Needs You, which brings together ideas, actions and projects based on six Ps. The first P stands for People, because that’s what it’s all about: giving people equal opportunities, prosperity, welfare, respect. Peace is about fighting injustice, big and small, in the world. Prosperity combats poverty and inequality. Planet stands for actions on biodiversity, climate, air quality, animal rights... With Partnership, VUB is looking for joint actions to make the world a better place. The sixth and last P is for Poincaré, the French philosopher Henri Poincaré, from whom VUB derives its motto that thinking should submit to nothing except the facts themselves. VUB is an ‘urban engaged university’, strongly anchored in Brussels and Europe and working according to the principles of free research.
